WalletHub’s study found Maine to be the eighth worst state in the United States for teachers.

MAINE, USA — A 2022 study WalletHub ranked Maine among the worst states for teachers in the United States

The study compared the 50 states and Washington, DC, in two areas, “opportunity and competition,” as well as “college and work environment.”

“Because competitive salaries and job security are integral to a well-balanced personal and professional life, we assigned greater weight to the first category,” WalletHub said.

Out of 50 states and the District of Columbia, Maine ranked eighth. New Hampshire ranked second worst.

New York and Utah took the top two spots on the list.

WalletHub looked at data from several organizations, including the US Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, US Department of Education, Learning Policy Institute, and more.

The study found that teachers in New York and Illinois had the highest annual salaries adjusted for cost of living. It also found that Kentucky and Montana had the lowest predicted teacher turnover rates.
